To create this racing machine, we adopted a fully integrated development approach, inventing an entirely new shock absorber, thanks also to four decades of victories on the off-road racing stage.
REFERENCE FRAME: To achieve maximum speed through perfect power transfer efficiency and ultra-precise handling, our team of engineers has set the new standard in terms of torsional stiffness and bottom bracket movement. The double diamond layout is the most sophisticated in Specialized's history, supporting the stiffness goal by integrating the shock absorber as a structural element.
FAST SUSPENSION: The Specialized Ride Dynamics Team has developed revolutionary technology for the Epic World Cup to give it the efficiency and responsiveness of a hardtail, and additionally the control and capability of a full suspension. The RockShox SID Deluxe WCID (World Cup Integrated Design) shock absorber with independently adjustable positive and negative air springs gives the Epic WC the coveted "snap" of hardtails, combined with a lightness that devours the terrain and provides the ability to adjust the setup based on specific terrain or personal preferences.
BEYOND CATEGORY: The 75mm of rear wheel travel on the Epic World Cup performs as if it were much more. When the bike is ridden in firm mode, it offers the same positive travel as a bike with 100mm of travel set with 25% sag. Optimization of air volumes and damping characteristics allows the Epic WC to handle impacts like a bike with more generous travel. The dedicated MegaJounce bumper provides robust end-of-stroke support to handle the most violent impacts.
BRAIN: While the revolutionary SID Deluxe WCID shock absorber provides the perfect mix of absorption and firmness on the rear triangle, the BRAIN is alive and well in the fork, with Position-Sensitive technology and 15mm of sag, without the need for lockout or levers to operate.
LIGHTNESS: With a frame weighing just 1765 grams (painted, with shock absorber and hardware), the Epic World Cup is the lightest on the market. This lightness translates into explosive accelerations, climbs with maximum efficiency, and surprising maneuverability. The sum of these characteristics is speed. We managed to design a frame so light and yet so stiff thanks to what we learned in the design of the Aethos, particularly in reference to carbon layup.
SEATPOST: The Epic World Cup comes with the new Roval Control SL seatpost, ultralight and stiff.
